POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN GERIATRIC CARE ADMINISTRATION (PGDGCA)

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMMES

The ageing population in India is on the rise, with projections indicating a significant increase in the elderly population by 2050. This demographic shift presents challenges, including higher rates of chronic illness and changing family structures. While Kerala stands out for its development achievements, social security measures for the elderly lag behind. As traditional support systems erode, there's a growing need for formal care giving options and innovative models of care. Addressing this requires a trained workforce in geriatric care to provide effective support. Proposed programs aim to develop expertise in administering geriatric care to meet the increasing demand for professional services.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Care and Administration (PGDGCA) equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills for effective management in geriatric care. The program focuses on ethical conduct, assessment of older adults, implementing care models, psycho social support, and facility management. Graduates gain competencies in communication, technology, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership. The curriculum spans two semesters, covering topics like aging theories, geriatric conditions, interventions, and field practicums.

Overall, PGDGCA prepares students for roles in geriatric care, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, and long-term care management.
